Correspondence, clippings, books, articles, promotional materials, press releases and Post Office Department orders banning products from mails. Records concern body height and various means of increasing it, usually quack stretching devices. There are two folders on the subject in general, 1934-1974. Also included are some materials on the Cartilage Company, manufacturer of a stretching machine, 1904-1915, and the Pandiculator Company, manufacturer of another stretching device, the "Pandiculator."

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration originated as part of the Dept. of Agriculture. In 1940, it was transferred to the Federal Security Agency, where it remained until 1953, when it became part of the newly created Dept. of Health, Education and Welfare.
